Maren Stavely started Stavely & Rowe in 2016. She had spent six years in finance at venture-backed companies, the last of them as VP Finance at a Series D SaaS company. Founders in her network kept asking her to look at their numbers before a board meeting or a raise.

The pattern rarely changed. Revenue was growing. The books closed three or four weeks after month-end. The runway figure in the deck came from a spreadsheet tab only one person could explain, and that person was usually the CEO. None of these companies needed a full-time CFO yet. Every one of them needed someone senior to own the forecast, the close calendar and the board story for a few days a month.

She took on three clients in the first year and set the rules the firm still works by: a written scope before any work starts, a partner on every account, and a model the client’s own team can run.

Daniel Rowe met Maren in 2018, when he ran the sale of one of her clients as an investment banker. The data room was complete before the buyer asked for it, and the numbers held through diligence. He had rarely seen that at a company of that size. He joined as a partner in 2019 to lead fundraising, M&A and exit readiness, and brought more than 40 closed deals with him.

Leah Okonjo and Sam Iverson joined later to run FP&A and reporting. The firm stays small on purpose. Every client works with people who have run finance inside growing companies or tested it from the other side of the table.

Scope agreed in writing

Every engagement starts with a written scope: hours, deliverables and dates. If a month would run over, we tell you before it happens, not on the invoice.

Maren Stavely

Founder & Managing Partner

Former VP Finance, Series D SaaS · 16 years in finance

Maren Stavely founded Stavely & Rowe in 2016 and leads the firm’s fractional CFO work. She started in FP&A at a public software company, then joined an early-stage SaaS business as its second finance hire and stayed through its Series D as VP Finance. In that role she ran four funding rounds, built a finance team of nine and brought the monthly close from three weeks to five days.

At Stavely & Rowe she serves as fractional CFO for a small number of venture-backed clients and reviews every board pack the firm sends. She writes the firm’s guides on board decks and on when to hire a full-time CFO.

Former investment banker · 40+ closed deals

Daniel Rowe leads the firm’s transaction work: fundraising support and M&A / exit readiness. He spent the first part of his career in investment banking at a middle-market advisory firm, working on sell-side processes for founder-owned companies, growth capital raises and buy-side diligence. Across that period he worked on more than 40 closed deals.

He joined Maren in the firm’s first year to build its transaction practice. Today he runs quality of earnings dry runs, working capital analysis and data rooms for clients preparing to raise or sell. He works alongside each client’s counsel and licensed advisors, who handle legal terms and securities matters.

Leah Okonjo

Principal, FP&A

Built forecasting at two venture-backed marketplaces

Leah Okonjo leads financial planning and analysis at Stavely & Rowe. Before joining the firm she built the forecasting function at two venture-backed marketplaces, one matching home services providers with customers and one connecting wholesale buyers with independent brands. At both she replaced a founder’s spreadsheet with a driver-based model, a 13-week cash forecast and a monthly budget-vs-actual the team could run without her.

She joined Stavely & Rowe in 2021. She builds most of the firm’s operating models, leads unit economics work for e-commerce and climate tech clients, and writes the firm’s guides on cash forecasting and SaaS metrics.

Sam Iverson

Senior Manager, Reporting & Controls

Audit background · runs the five-day close

Sam Iverson runs reporting and controls at Stavely & Rowe, including the five-day close that most engagements start with. He began his career in external audit, working on venture-backed technology and healthcare companies, then spent several years as controller at a multi-site services business, where he rebuilt the close calendar and the monthly reporting pack.

At Stavely & Rowe he sets up close calendars, reconciliations, accruals and deferred revenue schedules with each client’s bookkeeper and accountant. He also produces the board packs the partners present and gets clients ready for their first audit.

01

Numbers before opinions

We don’t recommend a hire, a price change or a raise until the model shows what it does to cash. If the data isn’t there yet, we say so and fix that first.
